Ceramics with Found Objects and Mixed Media
23 June @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm£99.00
Join Elaine in her studio in Brighton to explore combining ceramics with found objects; looking at techniques with clay and other materials to form mixed media objects and assemblages. We will make use of found objects and household materials to develop inventive and expressive work.
On this one day course you will work with porcelain and other clays to make pieces that use mixed media as part of the making process. We will look at how materials such as fabric, paper, rust other materials can be combined with clay to create textures and effects. We will also make pieces that can later be combined to form part of an assemblage. The ideas shared aim to develop skills and enthusiasm for continuing to work with clay and combining ceramics with other materials.
The day is suitable for beginners and materials & equipment will be provided, however, please bring along some found objects like small twigs, rust, other fond objects no bigger than your hand.
We recommend bringing a cloth apron if you have one, to protect your clothes. Please wear sensible shoes (preferably flat soles and not sandals).
Once the pieces have dried, your work will be bisque fired, glazed in a simple clear glaze and fired again; this may be up to 8 weeks after the class. Fired work can be collected from the studio or posted to participants for a small additional fee by arrangement. There are always risks with firing and with posting ceramics and Elaine will do all she can to ensure the pieces you make are successfully fired and arrive with you safely.
Tea and biscuits are provided at the studio. Lunch will not be provided but there are lots of nice places to get food near the studio, or you can bring your own.
