Working with clay; make a spoon, plate and cup
10 November @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm£99
Join Elaine in her studio in Brighton to make a spoon, plate and cup in Stoneware clay or Porcelain. During the day you will learn simple hand-building techniques to form small functional pieces and add your own creative ideas as surface decoration. On this one-day course you will be introduced to various techniques for hand building with clay including: pinching, coiling, and slab rolling. We will also look at how to you can use household items as moulds.
Once the pieces have dried, your work will be bisque fired, glazed in a simple clear glaze and fired again; this may be up to 8 weeks after the class. Fired work can be collected from the studio or posted to participants for a small additional fee by arrangement. The postage cost may be up to £11 depending on the number of pieces.
The day is suitable for beginners and all materials & equipment will be provided. We recommend bringing a cloth apron if you have one, to protect your clothes. Please wear sensible shoes (preferably flat soles and not sandals).
Please note: there are always risks with firing and with posting ceramics and we will do all we can to ensure the pieces you make are successfully fired and arrive with you safely.
Tea and biscuits are provided at the studio. Lunch will not be provided by Elaine but there are lots of nice places to get food near the studio, or you can bring your own.
